Notice of election, nomination of Candidates and closing date for nominations
for the Whakatane District Council 2010 Elections
Under sections 52 and 53 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, I give notice that on Saturday 9 October 2010 the following elections will be held under the first-past-the-post electoral system by postal vote:
Mayor
Election of Mayor
Council
Election of one councillor for the Galatea-Murupara Ward
Election of three councillors for the Rangitaiki Ward
Election of one councillor for the Taneatua-Waimana Ward
Election of five councillors for the Whakatane-Ohope Ward
Community Boards
Election of six members for the Murupara Community Board consisting of:
two members for the Galatea-Waiohau Subdivision
three members for the Murupara Subdivision
one member for the Te Urewera Subdivision
Election of six members for the Ohope Beach Community Board
Election of six members for the Rangitaiki Community Board Election of six members for the Taneatua Community Board
Election of six members for the Whakatane Community Board
Nominations
Each candidate must be nominated on the appropriate nomination paper obtainable during normal business hours from Friday 23 July from the following locations:
• Whakatane District Council, Civic Centre, Commerce Street, Whakatane
• Murupara Service Centre and Library, Civic Square, Murupara
• by telephoning 0800 922 822 where one will be posted out
• by accessing www.whakatane.govt.nz
Nominations of candidates must be in the hands of the electoral officer or an electoral official only at the Whakatane District Council, Civic Centre, Commerce Street, Whakatane not later than 12 noon on Friday, 20 August 2010.
Each nomination must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 GST inclusive (payable by cash, cheque or eftpos).
A candidate may submit a candidate profile statement with their nomination paper for sending out with the voting documents to electors. An attachment to the nomination paper outlines rules and procedures governing candidate profile statements.
Electoral Roll
The Electoral Roll to be used for this election closes on Friday 20 August 2010, and can be inspected during normal business hours from Friday 23 July 2010 at the following locations:

Enrolment for inclusion on the Residents Electoral Roll is conducted through the Electoral Enrolment Centre of New Zealand Post. Applications for enrolment should be made through your local post shop.
Enrolment for inclusion on the Ratepayers Electoral Roll is conducted through the electoral officer of the Whakatane District Council. Applications for enrolment should be made on the prescribed form available at the Council office, service centre and libraries at the above addresses or by phoning 0800 922 822.
Following closure of the roll, the electoral officer may, on application of any person who is or claims to be entitled to be enrolled or any other person or otherwise, make any necessary corrections to the names, addresses, abbreviations, or marks appearing in the electoral roll.
