Public Meetings

The Council and its committees meet monthly except for the Iwi Liaison Committee and Community Boards, which are on a six-weekly meeting cycle.

The legal requirements for council meetings are set down in the Local Government Act and the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act.

All Council, committee and community board meetings are open to the public unless there is reason to consider some item on the agenda with the public excluded.

Speaking at meetings

Although meetings are open to the public, members of the public do not have speaking rights unless prior arrangements are made with the Council.

A public forum is held at the beginning of most meetings, except for quasi-judicial hearings. If you wish to speak at the beginning of a meeting you must get permission from the chairperson of the meeting.

To contact a chairperson, email the Administration Officer.
