The Mayor's Message
Hello and welcome to the Whakatane District Council's website.
These pages introduce our elected members (10 councillors plus myself and 30 community board members), provides a section for you to Have Your Say on current issues or activities. It also provides information on plans and strategies and projects the Council manages and other information that you might find useful.
This district has such a lot to offer those who choose to work and live here. Not only is it a magnificent outdoor playground where people can enjoy a wide variety of leisure and sporting pursuits as well as wonderful arts and cultural activities.
As the district grows there are more employment opportunities arising. Agriculture, forestry and wood processing are the main industries but tourism and other service sectors are expanding rapidly. With the ease of communications in today's world, many people are choosing to live and work in places far from busy cities.
