Community Boards
The Whakatane District Council has five Community Boards which cover the whole of the district. Each Board has six members elected from within the community board area and one appointed Councillor from the same ward. All of the Boards meet within a six-weekly meeting cycle. The five Community Boards and the communities they cover are as follows:
The Edgecumbe-Tarawera Community Board covers the Edgecumbe-Tarawera Ward and includes the communities of Edgecumbe, Matata, Te Teko, Awakeri and Te Mahoe. The Board meets at the Lions' Reading Room, Edgecumbe Library at 5.30 pm on a Tuesday evening. For a map of the boundaries click here
The Murupara Community Board covers the Galatea-Murupara Ward and includes the communities of Waiohau, Galatea, Murupara, Te Whaiti, Minginui and Ruatahuna. For a map of the boundaries click here
The Ward is split into three subdivisions for election onto the Board. Murupara has three Members, Galatea has two and Te Urewera has one.
The Board meets at the Murupara Service Centre at 5.30 pm on a Wednesday evening.
The Ohope Beach Community Board is included within the Whakatane-Ohope Ward and covers the communities of Otarawairere, Ohope and Ohakana Island. The Board meets at the Ohope Beach Fire Station at 5.30 pm on a Monday evening. For a map of the boundaries click here
The Taneatua Community Board covers the whole of the Taneatua-Waimana Ward and includes the communities of Taneatua, Ruatoki, Waimana, Nukuhou and Cheddar Valley. The Board rotates its meetings between Taneatua (at the War Memorial Hall), Waimana (at the War Memorial Hall) and Ruatoki (at the Ruatoki Rugby Club) and meets on a Monday evening at 6.00 pm. The Whakatane Community Board is also included within the Whakatane-Ohope Ward and covers the area west of Otarawairere, Whakatane and Coastlands. The Board meets in Committee Room 1 at the Whakatane District Council Civic Centre on a Wednesday evening at 5.30 pm. For a map of the boundaries click here
