Welcome to the Whakatane District Council

Shibukawa City

Kita Tachibana has merged with five surrounding municipalities to become part of Shibukawa City. Shibukawa City is located within the Gumna Prefecture of Japan.

The Hokkitsu-mura Junior High School has been visiting Whakatane High School in August each year since 1993. As a result of this relationship a formal friendship agreement was signed in 2000 between Whakatane and Shibukawa City.

Shibukawa City has a total area of 240.42 sq km and is surrounded by Mt Akagi in the east, Mt Komochi in the north, Mt Hasruna in the west and the Kanto Plains spread out into the south.

The Tone River flows through the south-western part of the village which is bordered on the south by Maebashi-shi, the capital of the prefecture, beyond Tachibana-yama.

The population of the newly formed city is approximately 87,400.  There are 17 Elementry schools and 10 Junior High schools.
