Outdoor Pool Open
The outdoor heated pool at the Whakatane District Aquatic Centre will re-open next week while repairs to the main building continue.
The Whakatane District Aquatic Centre and gymnasium closed on 31 March, for repair work expected to take 7-8 months. The gymnasium was relocated to the Leisure Club on Commerce Street. As the outdoor pool is largely unaffected by the work, it will re-open on Monday July 19 at 6am.
Project Manager Barbara Dempsey said she is pleased with the progress of the repair work so far. “By completing the work around the outdoor pool first, we are able to re-open the pool while work on the building continues. The pool is heated, so can be used during the winter months by athletes wishing to train or other swimmers happy to brave the cold air.”
The pool will be open from 6am to 8am and 1pm to 5:30pm on weekdays and from 8am to 12pm, Saturday and Sunday. Toilets and showers are available for swimmers.
The aquatic centre car park is closed to allow repairs to the main building to continue. Pedestrian access to the outdoor pool is provided from the corner of Russell and Lovelock Streets or via Short Street. Tickets and concession passes for the pool can be purchased from The Leisure Club at 197-199 Commerce Street, phone 308 4192.
There are no cash or eftpos facilities currently at the pool. For more information about the Whakatane District Aquatic Centre repair project contact the Council on 07 306 0500.
