Waioeka Gorge Slip Update

State Highway 2 (SH2) through the Waioeka Gorge is expected to remain closed for approximately a month, possibly longer following a series of large slips that occurred on Friday 2 March and Saturday 3 March.
Approximately 100,000 cubic metres of slip material came down on Saturday 3 March at approximately 5.00pm and more loose material has been dislodged with the help of a helicopter and a monsoon bucket.
Based on discussions with contractors it will be re-open in 4 weeks possibly longer. The priority is to get the Gorge opened as quickly and safely as possible.
