Asset Management Plans
Whakatane District Council's Asset Management Plans (AMPs) have been finalised and were adopted by Council on 28 October 2009. This follows the AMP renewals programmes being reviewed as part of the Council's 2009-19 Long Term Plan process.
Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 2002 requires the Council to include in the Long Term Council Community Plan, information that shows that the Council's strategic assets are designed to serve a specific purpose and their size or scale is appropriate for service they perform. This information is provided in the Council's AMPs.
The AMPs also include a defined methodology for planned maintenance and asset replacement as well as a forecast of the expected costs to maintain and replace the assets. The documents are reviewed cyclically (typically at least every three years) to ensure they remain relevant.
The Asset Management Plans have been developed for the following eight asset classes:

The Asset Management Plans have been developed in accordance with the National Asset Management Steering (NAMS) Guidelines. They include forecasted population growth, the level of service expected by the customers, the condition of the asset, planned maintenance and replacement which ensures a complete and consistent approach to the long term planning of assets.
The renewal programmes for the assets, which include significant maintenance or replacement activity over and above routine work, have been finalised following the Long Term Council Plan being finalised and adopted in July 2009.
