Whakatane District Council is committed to maintaining a strong financial position for the District. We’re working hard to deliver the best quality facilities and services while also maintaining our commitment to keep rates down through prudent financial management.

Safer Communities

Whakatane District Council has a partnership with the Crime Prevention Unit (Ministry of Justice) to work together in reducing crime. As a result, the Safer Whakatane and Districts Community Council (SWDCC) was set up to help reduce crime in the District.

Ultra-fast Broadband

Chorus is laying thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cable to bring ultra-fast broadband to more than 830,000 homes and businesses across New Zealand. The ultra-fast broadband (UFB) initiative means that fibre optic cable, which can deliver data further and faster than traditional copper cables, will go past homes and businesses in Chorus’ UFB areas.

Youth

The Whakatane District Council involves the youth in a number of campaigns aimed at helping youth add to the community.
