2008 Funding Allocations
The Creative New Zealand Local Communities Funding Scheme has allocated $20 100 to various community groups within the Whakatane District. Click on link to view the allocations

A total of 9 local organisations recently benefited to the tune of $27,034 from the Creative New Zealand Community Funding Scheme which provides money to enhance and increase the arts in the community.  The recipients are:

$7,500 to the Whakatane Community Arts Council for Summer Arts 2010 and a Guarantee Against Loss of $4,000 to cover unexpected circumstances for some of the performances

to the Edgecumbe Choir to renew their tiered risers as the current ones are in a bad state of repair     

$1,150
to the Tuteao Marae Committee to transpose Marae photos onto canvas

$1,200
to the EBAT Charitable Trust to provide an 11 week Maori Art Programme

$1,184
to Edgecumbe College to embroider and make Kapa Haka costumes

$1,500
to the Whakatane Society of Arts and Crafts Inc to create an artistic gateway to the premises

Whakatane High School was offered a $1,500 Guarantee against loss for the production “Grease”,    

$1,000
was offered to Tait Kora for the concert to release the CD Te Tomo 2

Theatre Whakatane Inc was offered $1,000 for each of the 5 shows they intend to produce over the next year.

Creative New Zealand: Creative Communities Whakatane Scheme

Purpose

The Creative Communities Whakatane Scheme is aimed at increasing participation in the arts at the local level, and at increasing the range and diversity of arts available to communities.
This Fund is provided by Creative NZ and administered by the Whakatane District Council.

Amount available

The amount available for 2008/09 is $24,688. See Related Information on the right for the application form.

Who can apply?

Applicants are eligible to apply to the Creative Communities Scheme, either as individuals or groups
In principle, the Scheme offers support for projects rather than support for applicants and all applications are assessed according to the merit of the project, based on the Creative Communities Scheme criteria.
All applications, whether from groups or individuals, need to identify the benefits of the proposed project to the local community.
All applicants must be domiciled in the Whakatane District.

How and when to apply?

Annual applications round opens on March 1 and closes March 31 of each year. Applications must be made on the Creative Communities fund application form. These are available from the Council offices and public libraries as well as on the website.

Minor applications of less than $1000 are accepted throughout the year but applicants are encouraged to apply through the annual applications round where possible (see above).

How your application is assessed 

For the annual applications round, applications are considered by the Creative New Zealand Local Communities Funding Assessment Special Committee in mid April and applicants are notified of the decision within a week of the meeting.

Minor applications are considered by the Whakatane Community Arts Council at their next meeting, as they come to hand. Meeting are held monthly and applicants are notified of the decision within a week of the meeting.

  • Fantastic Festival costs
  • Purchase of musical equipment
  • Summer Arts Festival costs
  • Carving Course
  • Guarantee against loss for theatrical production

Accountability

Recipients of funding through the Creative Communities Whakatane Scheme  are required to complete an organisational receipt form within which they must:

  • specify how the grant was spent and attach evidence of expenditure such as receipts, invoices or signed statements by the club's accountant
  • report the benefits of having received the assistance.
