The Rates Rebate Scheme benefits people who pay rates for the home in which they live, and whose incomes are low.
Changes have been made to the Scheme to increase the number of people who could be eligible for a Rates Rebate. For more information send an email to rates
Rates Rebates
This is a government-funded scheme, under which anyone with a low income may qualify.
What is a Rebate?
People who are eligible for a Rates Rebates will pay less in rates to the Council. New thresholds of the Rates Rebate Scheme coming into effect on 1 July 2006 are:
- maximum rebate has increased from $200 to $500
- income threshold has increased from $7,400 to $20,000
- an additional income allowance for dependants has increased from $156 to $500 per dependant
How do I apply?
When applying for rates rebate it is helpful if you have or provide the following:
- proof of income for the last tax year (1 April- 31 March)
- Your rates notice
- Proof of your partner/joint homeowner's income if she/he lives with you
Please wait until you get your first annual rates bill, before making an application of visiting the Council about a rebate.
