Matata Wastewater

In 2005, provisional approval was given for funding for a reticulated system through the central government as part of the Sanitary Works Subsidy Scheme (SWSS).

The reticulation project was put on hold during the clean up and recovery after the May 2005 debris flow and flood. Council is now re-investigating options for waste water treatment following the implementation of the disaster recovery project.

The estimated cost of a waste water reticulation scheme including a package plant for treatment disposal is approximately $9million. The cost is preliminary and subject to change based on the final design. The completion of the projectis subject to funding received from central government through the Sanitary Works Subsidy Scheme (SWSS).

This cost includes all private property connection costs (connecting to the new sewer, emptying and backfilling of all old septic tanks).
