Sullivan Lake Reserve Draft Management Plan

Submissions closed 5 pm Friday, 4 September 2015.

The Whakatāne District Council has approved the Sullivan Lake Reserve Draft Management Plan for public consultation. The draft plan has been developed with reference to relevant Council strategic plans, with input from key stakeholders and with consideration for national and international trends.

The management plan is a working document, which sets out the objectives and policies for managing Sullivan Lake Reserve and describes how these will be achieved. It is a reference point for consistent, day-today management and future planning by the Whakatāne District Council, and others with an interest in the reserve. The Plan will guide the short- and long-term management of the Reserve over the next 10 years.

Wider community input is invited into the draft plan, and your suggestions and feedback are welcome. The Draft Reserve Management Plan is available for download below, as is the submission form.

You can email your submissions to info@whakatane.govt.nz, or post them to:

The vision for Sullivan Lake Reserve is, "An attractive urban reserver that provides an appealing small lake and open green space environment for the Whakatāne community to enjoy passive recreation."

The key elements are the lake environment, the open green space and passive recreation.

The vision states an outcome for the three key values:

  1. That the lake environment is essential to the character of the reserve and should be retained in an appealing condition, to support associated wildlife and vegetation.
  2. The green open space is a key landscape value and this should be maintained.
  3. The reserve supports passive recreation in Whakatāne, and any development of the reserve should be in keeping with this.
