Borrowing Books

How many items can I borrow?

You can have up to 20 items on your card at any one time. This includes the items you have not returned.

How long can I have them for?

  • Most books: three weeks
  • $2 top titles: two weeks
  • $2 rental dvds/videos: one week

What can I do if I want my books longer?

There is a maximum of two renewals per item. Items can be renewed by logging in to your account online before the due date. Alternatively, you can contact the library by email or phone to renew items. Please note, if an item has a hold on it from another library borrower, it cannot be renewed.

Can I return my books to another branch library?

You can return your books to one of our community libraries located in Whakatāne, Murupara, Edgecumbe or Ōhope.

If I keep the books after the due date, do I get fined?

Yes, 30 cents a day until the item is returned. If you have a rental item, the fine is 50 cents a day.

Reserving Books

If I find an item on the catalogue, but it is not available at the moment, what can I do?

We can reserve/hold the item for you, or you can reserve it yourself online in the catalogue.

Will it cost me anything?

It will cost you $2.50 per item, which is to be paid when you collect it. If the item is a rental, you will be charged the rental price as well.

How will I know when it is ready for me?

We will send you a notice. You will have one week to collect the item from the library and pay the charges.
