Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) is an annual celebration held with the aim of inspiring New Zealanders to speak the Māori language proudly.

Festivities were extra special in 2022 as 14th September marked the 50th anniversary of the Māori Language Petition, an event that led to many of the kaupapa we have today, including Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.

We put together an exciting programme to help all our communities learn the language and reflect on its importance. We encouraged everyone to embrace the uniqueness of Aotearoa and the taonga that is te Reo Māori. Whether you wanted to ako (learn), whakarongo (listen), waiata (sing), pānui (read), tuhi (write), or kōrero (speak) te reo Māori, we provided the opportunity to have a go and be part of the Reo Māori.
