Work is underway to install a new watermain along SH30 and Huna Road to support current needs and future growth in the area.
Draintech Contractors started construction on 1 September 2025, and work is expected to continue through to 30 November 2025. The project involves installing around 1.2km of new watermain infrastructure.
What’s been done so far
- Huna Road section: About 500m of DN180 PE watermain pipe has been installed along the eastern berm using directional drilling.
- SH30 section: Construction has started on a new DN400 PE watermain from the corner of Shaw Road to the corner of Huna Road. This section currently has no existing watermain.
What’s coming up
- Continued trenching along SH30
- Installation of service connections along Huna Road
What this work might mean for you
- Traffic: Temporary reduced speed limits are in place on SH30 and Huna Road to keep everyone safe.
- Noise: Some construction noise is expected during work hours.
- Vehicle access: We don’t expect major disruptions, but if access needs to be restricted, the contractor will let residents know ahead of time.
- Water supply: A planned water shutdown will be needed when we connect the new pipeline to existing services on Huna Road. Affected residents will get at least 48 hours’ notice via letter drop. We’ll also work directly with non-domestic users like Julians Berry Farm, Paroa Rugby Club, and any marae in the area to minimise disruption.
