Adopted under the provisions of the Reserves Act 1977, this management plan is a working document, which sets out the objectives and policies for managing Sullivan Lake Reserve and describes how these will be achieved. It is a reference point for consistent, everyday management and future planning by the Whakatāne District Council, stakeholders and the community with an interest in the Reserve. The Plan will guide day-to-day, as well as long-term management, over the next 10 years.

Minor Review: Sullivan Lake Reserve Management Plan 2015-2025
The Sullivan Lake Reserve Management Plan (the Plan) was adopted in November 2015. In early 2019, the Sullivan Lake Residents Care Group initiated discussions with Councils’ Places and Open Spaces and Three Waters teams to gauge progress against the goals and actions set out in the Plan as well as to identify updated legislation and new Council policy/strategy/consents that relate to Sullivan Lake and Reserve.
A series of meetings with the Care Group followed over the autumn and winter months and an updated Action Plan, Concept Plan, and notes on updated/new Bylaws, Plans and Strategies has been produced through collaboration with the Care Group and Council staff.
It is agreed that this review does not constitute a comprehensive review of the Plan under Section 41, Subsection 9 of the Reserves Act. The review serves to update the information in the Plan and to recognise - in particular the improvements/changes to the management of stormwater across the reserve and wider district, as well as the addition of a drawn concept plan that relates to intended development between 2019 and 2025.
In terms of Subsection 9 of Section 41 of the Reserves Act, public notification of the review was not undertaken, however Care Group/Resident members were engaged in three separate meetings with Council to discuss the issues.
