Code Compliance Certificate

A Code Compliance Certificate is issued by Whakatāne District Council when it is satisfied new building and plumbing work complies with the New Zealand Building Code.

If the work does not comply, the Council will issue a Notice to Fix, identifying areas of non-compliance.

Getting a Code Compliance Certificate is beneficial for property owners in a number of situations:

  • When selling your home
  • When applying for loans or other financing
  • When applying for insurance
  • For safety and peace of mind

How to apply for a Code Compliance Certificate

What if you've refused to issue my Code Compliance Certificate?

We must decide to issue or, refuse to issue, a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) 20 working days after we receive an application or two years after the consent has been issued (or a further period if agreed). If we refuse to issue a CCC we will clearly outline the reasons why.

Work not completed - if we are unable to issue your CCC due to consented work not being completed, you can continue your build and contact us when you’re ready for inspections. Once you’re done, apply for the CCC and the decision process will start again.

Documents required -  if we are unable to issue your CCC due to required documents not being provided, please send them through to us and apply for the CCC.

If you require clarification of the reason for refusal, get in touch.

Please note, if your consent was lodged prior to 1 March 2012 or did not incorporate Restricted Building Work, the area of Form 6 relating to details of Licensed Building Practitioners may not apply. Subsequently, a Form 6A may not be required. If you require clarification, please contact Council's Building Control team: 07 306 0500.
