We have a planned water shutdown this Friday to carry out urgent repairs following a recent break on Wairaka Road.

Planned Water Shutdown - Saturday 12 July - James St Area, Whakatāne
Whakatāne District Council advises residents of planned water shutdowns to enable connection works as part of the Water Mains and Connections Renewal Project in the following areas.

Whakatāne District Council’s Roading Team will be undertaking planned maintenance on the Keepa Road shared path starting mid to late July.

Road closure notice: Light Up Whakatāne Event
Whakatāne District Council proposes to allow the closure of the below roads to traffic for the Light Up Whakatāne event on Saturday, 5 July 2025.
During the closure, provision will be made for access in emergency situations only.

Road closure notice: Matahi Road, Rotoma
Whakatāne District Council advises the following road will be closed to traffic for the Motorsport Bay of Plenty Tarmac Hillclimb Event on Sunday, 6 July 2025.
During the closure, provision will be made for access in emergency situations only.
Date of closure: Sunday, 6 July 2025
Time of closure: 9am – 5pm
This road closure is made under the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965 and Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 1974.
It is an offence for anyone to use the road for ordinary traffic during this time unless permitted.
Quay Street pōhutukawa to be removed for stormwater upgrade
A pōhutukawa tree along Quay Street will need to be removed as part of critical stormwater upgrade work being delivered alongside Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s Project Future Proof flood protection project.
While Project Future Proof is led by Bay of Plenty Regional Council, the affected stormwater pipe is part of Whakatāne District Council’s infrastructure. The Council is coinciding the pipe replacement with the Regional Council floodwall work to ensure the upgrade goes ahead in the most efficient manner.

Manawa Energy Matahina Dam Road Closure - From 2 May until 6 June
Galatea Road near Te Mahoe will be closed with a detour in place from Friday, 2 May until Tuesday, 6 June. Please allow a 15+ minute delay in your travel time.
