The weather warning for the Bay of Plenty, west of Ōpōtiki, has been lifted. The weather warning east of Ōpōtiki remains in place until 8.00pm tonight.
Even once the rain eases or stops, slips can still happen. Please take care and avoid unnecessary travel after rain.

Important information for residents living or working close to cliffs or steep slopes (escarpments)
If you live near steep slopes, cliffs, escarpments or hill sides, the risk isn’t just during the rain.
As we’ve recently seen with the Herepuru slip, once the whenua / land becomes saturated (which it already is - and the rain hasn't even started), movement can happen days later, even after the rain stops and the sun comes out.
That delayed movement is the danger zone.
