Whakatāne District Council is moving to a new online platform for building consent applications – the new online platform is called Objective Build.
Objective Build has been developed in consultation with hundreds of builders, architects, designers, and industry professionals across Aotearoa and is designed to make the consent process smoother and more efficient. It enables the reuse of information across applications, means users can see the status of their building consent application and actions requiring updates; in short, managing a building consent right through its lifecycle. The Council has invested in this platform to save you time and improve the overall service experience.
The software connects to our existing system, but it does look a little different.
The new platform is available for use from Sunday 16 November 2025, at the following website build.objective.com, and the retiring platform (AlphaOne) will be available to use up until that time.
Getting started with Objective Build
To begin, head to build.objective.com and register with a username and password.
From Sunday 16 November 2025, please submit all building consent applications through Objective Build. Up until then, you may continue using the current AlphaOne platform if you wish.
The new system has been designed to make the application process much easier, including automatically notifying you as each stage of the process is reached through the software (rather than by email). Apple phone users can access the programme’s App through the App Store.
The Objective Build website has a number of handy resources available, including tutorial videos.
For new Building Consent applications
If you’ve already got an Objective Build account with another council you can log into your existing account. From here you will be able to create a new application with Whakatāne District Council.
You can set up your account at any time. When you do, we recommend that you use the email address you have used for other Whakatāne District Council Building Consent applications, so your existing information transfers to the system. If you need to use a different one, or have used more than on in the past, please contact us at build.support@objective.com with the information so we can collate your files.
For existing Building Consent applications submitted prior to 16 November 2025
If you submitted a completed Building Consent application prior to 16 November, this will be automatically transferred across to the new system. However, any draft/unsubmitted applications in AlphaOne after 16 November will need to be recreated in Objective Build.
We're here to help
We know that change can be tricky, so we have Objective customer services team on call to help. We also have the experts at Objective Build available to answer technical questions about the portal.
Objective Build includes help panels throughout the system to guide you. If you run into any issues or have questions while setting up, you can contact Objective’s support team at build.support@objective.com.
We trust that this new platform will help make the building consent process easier for you.
