Planned water shutdown – Friday 17 April 2026, Edgecumbe
Main Street, Tawa Street, Kauri Street and nearby properties
There will be a planned water shutdown on Friday 17 April 2026 affecting parts of Edgecumbe, so connection works can be carried out as part of the Whakatāne District Council Watermain Renewal Programme on Main Street and Tawa Ave.
Areas and times affected
- Main Street (around State Highway 2 and Bridge Street), Edgecumbe
Friday 17 April, 1.30pm to 4pm
This includes Bridge Street (around numbers 10 and 12), nearby Main Street businesses and College Road (number 1).
- Tawa Street, Main Street and Kauri Street, Edgecumbe
Friday 17 April, 9am to 4pm
This includes properties on Tawa Street, Main Street (numbers 35, 19, 18, 12, 9a and 9b) and Kauri Street (1/1, 1/2 and 1/3).
Water supply will be turned off for these time periods only, and properties outside these areas should not be affected.
What you need to do
If you or someone in your household relies on water for critical medical support, please make alternative arrangements while the water is off. This may include filling containers, buckets or your bath ahead of time for essential use.
After the water is turned back on
Mains flushing will take place once supply is restored. As a precaution, we recommend running your outside tap closest to the road for two to three minutes before turning on indoor taps. This helps clear any trapped air or sediment.
If the water looks cloudy, keep flushing until it clears. The water is safe to drink and the cloudiness is caused by air in the pipes.
