Nominations are now open for the 2026 Community Board By-Elections in the Whakatāne District.
These By-Elections follow insufficient nominations in the triennial elections held on 11 October 2025. While Jesse Morgan-Ranui was appointed as a Councillor, Toi ki Uta Māori Ward, one position remains vacant on the Murupara Community Board (Galatea-Waiōhau Subdivision) and three positions are unfilled on the Tāneatua Community Board.
Community board members play a vital role in representing local interests and helping shape the future of Whakatāne District. Members support community wellbeing, champion local priorities, and ensure diverse voices are heard in Council decision-making.
Manager Governance Services Chirese Viljoen says Community Boards are the voice of our neighbourhoods.
“Serving on a board is an opportunity to make a real difference by advocating for local priorities and helping shape decisions that matter to your community.”
Nomination forms are available from the Whakatāne District Council Civic Centre at 14 Commerce Street, Whakatāne, and the Murupara Service Centre in Civic Square, Murupara.
Nominations close at 12 noon on Monday, 22 December 2025.
