Whakatāne District Council has two planned water shutdowns scheduled for Thursday 14 August 2025, to carry out connection works as part of the Water Mains and Connections Renewal Project.

Temporary Supply Connection – Commerce Street
- Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm
- Affected Properties: #185–#211 Commerce Street
- Details: Water will remain available via a temporary overland connection. However, pressure will be significantly reduced during this time.
Full Shutdown – Short Street and Valley Road
- Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Affected Properties:
• 9 Short Street (Whakatāne Town AFC)
• 59–61 Valley Road - Details: No water supply will be available during this time. If water is critical to your operations, please make alternative arrangements in advance.
Important Reminders:
- If your household relies on water for critical medical support, please make alternative arrangements.
- Store water in buckets, bathtubs, and potable containers ahead of time.
- After water is restored, mains flushing will be carried out to remove air and sediment.
- Run your outside tap closest to the road for 2–3 minutes before using indoor taps.
- Milky water is safe – it’s just air bubbles. Keep flushing until it runs clear.
