Just when it seemed like winter might settle down, MetService New Zealand has issued a Heavy Rain Warning - Orange - for the Bay of Plenty. A long, wet day is expected tomorrow (Tuesday, 29 July).
Forecast Details:
- Rain is expected from 10 am Tuesday through to 3 am Wednesday.
- Downpours, gusty winds, and a moderate chance of escalation to a Red warning.
- Rainfall totals between 130–180mm, with peak rates of 20–30mm/hour expected Tuesday evening.
- Rivers may rise quickly, and roads could become hazardous due to slips and surface flooding.
Wind Advisory: A Strong Wind Watch is also in place. Northeasterly winds may reach severe gale strength in exposed areas. Please secure outdoor items such as trampolines and wheelie bins.
What You Can Do Now:
- Clear drains and gutters.
- Avoid flood-prone areas during heavy rain.
- Drive to the conditions, or stay home if possible.
- Check in on neighbours, whānau, and pets.
