The Whakatāne Boat Ramp will be closed on Wednesday 14 January while a damaged concrete pontoon is removed for safety reasons.
A partial closure is expected for the remainder of the week, depending on how the work progresses.
Boaties are asked to use alternative facilities during this time, including the Port Ōhope boat ramp (opposite the golf course).
The damage to the pontoon was unexpected and requires urgent action. We acknowledge this disruption is not ideal, particularly during the summer period when the ramp experiences high use.
Once the damaged pontoon has been removed, the boat ramp will reopen with the two remaining pontoons available. Launching and retrieving will still be possible, although access will be more limited than usual.
The damaged pontoon will be replaced with a new one. Updates on timeframes will be provided as the project progresses.
Tēnā koutou i ngākaunui mai / Thanks for your cooperation.
