We're reviewing Council-owned land to identify property that’s no longer needed for operational use. Some of these sites are costing ratepayers money while providing little or no benefit to the community. We’re proposing to sell these surplus properties and want to hear what you think.
What's changing?
After a comprehensive review, a number of Council properties have been identified as no longer required. We're proposing to sell these sites, including:
- 1a Muriwai Drive, Whakatāne
- 21 Hodges Road, Waimana
- 42 Te Tahi Street, Whakatāne
Some of these are partially used (e.g., for Three Waters infrastructure) or leased, and would be sold with conditions in place to protect those uses.
Why are we consulting?
We want to make sure any decision to sell Council-owned land reflects the views and needs of our communities. This is your chance to tell us if you support the sale of these properties—or if you think there are good reasons to keep them.
What do we want to know?
- Do you support the Council selling these properties?
- Are there any specific reasons why a property should be retained?
- Do you have local knowledge or community concerns we should be aware of?
What happens after submissions close?
Once submissions close, Elected Members will review all feedback before making a final decision on whether to sell the proposed properties. Updates will be shared through our website and Council channels.
