Notice of By-Election Whakatāne District Council Murupara Community Board (Galatea-Waiōhau Subdivision)

As a result of the resignation of a member, an extraordinary vacancy has occurred in the Murupara Community Board (Galatea-Waiōhau Subdivision) of Whakatāne District Council.

Under section 120 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, notice is given that on Wednesday 5 June 2024, a by-election will be held under the first past the post electoral system by postal vote for one member
of the Murupara Community Board (Galatea-Waiōhau Subdivision).

Nominations

Candidates must be nominated on a nomination paper obtainable during normal business hours from Tuesday 12 March 2024 from:

  • Civic Centre, Whakatāne District Council, Civic Centre, 14 Commerce Street, Whakatāne;
  • Murupara Service Centre & Library, Civic Square, Pine Drive, Murupara;
  • by phoning 0800 922 822;
  • by emailing info@electionservices.co.nz
  • whakatane.govt.nz

Nominations can be returned by:

  • hand to the Civic Centre, Whakatāne District Council, 14 Commerce Street, Whakatāne;
  • hand to the Murupara Service Centre & Library, Civic Square, Pine Drive, Murupara;
  • scanned and emailed to info@electionservices.co.nz

Nominations of candidates must be in the hands of the electoral officer or an electoral official at any of the above locations, no later than 12 noon, Tuesday 9 April 2024.

Each nomination must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 GST inclusive (payable by cash, eftpos or bank transfer).

A candidate may submit a photo and a candidate profile statement with their nomination paper for inclusion with the voting documents being sent to electors. An attachment to the nomination paper
outlines rules and procedures governing candidate profile statements and photos.

Electoral Roll

The electoral roll to be used for this by-election closes on Tuesday 9 April 2024 and can be inspected during normal business hours from Tuesday 12 March 2024 at the above locations.
Enrolment for inclusion on the Residential Electoral Roll is conducted through the Electoral Commission. Applications should be made through at www.vote.nz or by phoning 0800 36 76 56.
Enrolment for inclusion on the Ratepayer Electoral Roll is conducted through the electoral office of Whakatāne District Council. Applications for enrolment can be made on the prescribed form available
from www.whakatane.govt.nz by phoning 0800 922 822 or by emailing info@electionservices.co.nz 

Following closure of the roll, the electoral officer may, on application of any person who is or claims to be entitled to be enrolled or any other person or otherwise, make any necessary corrections to the
names, addresses, abbreviations, or marks appearing in the electoral roll.
