Section of Stanley Road closed from Monday 22 January

UPDATE:

We are currently experiencing a delay in steel supplies, which will have a 2-week impact on this project.

The expected current start date for excavation of the existing road is Monday, 5 February 2024.

The road will stay open as per the current arrangement to residents and other services making use of Stanley Road until such time.

Construction works on the permanent repair to a large underslip site on Stanley Road (near property #609A) will commence this Monday, 22 January, and are expected to take approximately 40 working days. Therefore, it is expected construction will be completed around March 15 (weather dependant).

Due to the nature of work involved, construction will be completed under a road closure for this section of Stanley Road between the hours of 8am-5pm Monday to Friday and 8am-3pm Saturday’s. This is due to the road alignment being moved back toward the existing embankment and to allow for heavy machinery to be operated safely within a limited area.

Outside of the above times, and on public holidays, this section of Stanley Road will be open under priority give way.

Please note, there will not be detours in place. Rather, all traffic needing to access between #428-610 must access via Wainui Road, while anyone requiring access from #609A-1241 is to access from SH2 (Tāneatua end).

Work will involve; excavation of a portion of the road to create access to the slipped area, the installation of steel piles 4.5m above the excavated level and 4m into the stable embankment, the construction of a retaining wall, reconstruction of the embankment, the installation of anchor rods which will run under the road, the reconstruction and sealing of the road, and installation of guardrail.

If there are any changes to the above information, we will communicate this to you via our social media accounts, website and direct email (providing we have been supplied your email contact details). We have a dedicated Stanley Road mailing list and encourage all residents to register for updates by emailing roading@whakatane.govt.nz

We thank you for your patience and understanding while we undertake these important works.
