Whakatāne District Council advises construction on the permanent repair to the Stanley Road underslip site is progressing well and we are on track to have this project finished by Friday 22 March 2024, weather dependent.

Upcoming road closure

Due to the nature of work involved with the next stage of construction, we wish to advise a full road closure to the section of Stanley Road surrounding this site is required.

A road closure for all road users will begin from 4pm this Wednesday, 6 March 2024. No vehicular traffic will be able to enter or exit through the site during the below timeframes:

• From 4pm Wednesday, 6 March 2024 (after the school bus run) until 5pm Friday, 8 March 2024.
• From Monday, 11 March 2024, weekday closures will be in place. This means Stanley Road will re-open in full during weekends, re-opening 5pm Fridays and re-closing 8am Monday.

The closure will need to be in place until 5pm Friday, 22 March 2024.

While these closures are in place, our contractor Tracks, will assist all school pupils with controlled access in the mornings and in the afternoons to ensure they can continue to use the school bus near the site safely.

All traffic needing to access between #428-610 must access via Wainui Road, while anyone requiring access from #609A-1241 is to access from SH2 (Tāneatua end), during these closure periods.

We appreciate this disruption is not ideal and we thank you for your patience and understanding while we undertake these important works.
