Water Shutdown - Whakatāne West

Date: 9 pm Thursday 7th September to 5 am Friday 8th September, 2023Water Shutdown
Properties affected: Whakatāne West, including Coastlands Subdivision, Piripai, Shaw Road Subdivision, The Hub, Gateway Industrial Area, Mill Road Industrial Area, and other rural properties supplied via the Whakatāne Water Scheme.

As part of the Landing Road Roundabout project, we are currently in the process of relocating and upgrading the water mains at Landing Road.

To complete this crucial upgrade, a shutdown is required to the water main that services the area west of the Whakatāne River. Included in this area is Coastlands Subdivision, Piripai, Shaw Road Subdivision, The Hub, Gateway Industrial Area, Mill Road Industrial Area, and other rural properties supplied via the Whakatāne Water Scheme.

In an effort to minimise disruption, this water shutdown will occur during nighttime hours, between 9:00pm Thursday 7th September to 5am Friday 8th September, 2023.

If you or a member of your household depends on water for critical medical support that requires a continuation of water supply – please ensure you make alternative arrangements for the times stated above. This could include filling buckets or your bathtub with water for your use and have a potable water container filled with water for drinking.

Please be advised that mains flushing will be carried out to remove any entrapped air or sediment in the line.
Starting from 3am, we will begin the process of recharging the water system and flushing hydrants to remove any residual air in the lines.

Please do not open taps before 5am as this may interfere with this important process.

As a precaution, after 5am, we recommend you run your outside tap for at least two-three minutes to dislodge any sediment and remove entrapped air in your lines prior to opening any inside taps. Unplug water-dependent appliances and fixtures such as washing machines, dishwashers during the shutdown period to prevent potential damage or clogs once the water supply is restored.
If the water appears milky continue to flush lines until this clear. This is nothing to worry about and the water is still perfectly safe; it simply occurs because of the pockets of air that get trapped in the pipeline.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and our team is dedicated to ensuring this upgrade is carried out smoothly and efficiently. Should you have any questions or concerns about this upcoming upgrade or its impact on your water supply, reach out to our 3Waters team at 306 0665 or email landingroad@whakatane.govt.nz
