A proposed plan change seeking the identification of the Awatarariki Debris Flow Policy Area, including a "high risk", "medium risk" and a "low risk" area, and rezoning the high-risk area from Residential to Coastal Protection Zone at the Awatarariki Fanhead, Matatā.
Whakatāne District Council received 8 submissions to the Proposed Plan Change.
The submission by Glenn Baker was received after the formal period for submissions had closed. A decision on whether to accept the late submission will be made by Independent Commissioners appointed to the Hearing Panel. Acceptance of further submissions on this late submission will be subject to the late submission being accepted by the Commissioners.
Further submissions were sought and were received until 4:00 pm on Tuesday, 11 December 2018.
A further submission can only be made in support of, or in opposition to, any original submission. Under clause 8(1) of Schedule 1 to the Resource Management Act 1991, the following persons may make a further submission:
- (a) any person representing a relevant aspect of the public interest, and
- (b) any person that has an interest in the proposed plan change greater than the interest that the general public has, and
- (c) the local authority.
