The objective of this strategy is to integrate sustainable decision-making and actions into the way the Council does business. 

Councils have a significant role in promoting the "social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing" of their communities. As such, they must ensure that decisions being made on behalf of the community provide a balance between all four wellbeings, today and for the Whakatāne community of the future.
