A great opportunity for creative projects in our communities to get much needed funding is available through the Creative Communities Whakatāne Scheme, now open for applications.

Applications for funding can be made until 25 November 2022 and there is $19,000 available for projects taking place between 3 December 2022 and 2 December 2023.

The Scheme aims to increase participation in the arts at a local level and enhance the range and diversity of arts available within communities. The funding is divided into three categories: Access and Participation; Diversity; Young People. 

Applications to the Scheme can be made either as individuals or groups.

Whakatāne District Council Governance Manager Cindy Butt says the Scheme offers support for projects rather than support for applicants.

“All applications are assessed according to the merit of the project. There’s a good range of projects eligible for funding, from festivals and productions to workshops, giving opportunities for community involvement in the arts, youth arts events and artist-led projects.”

The Creative New Zealand Local Communities Funding Assessment Special Committee will consider the applications in December and applicants will be notified of the decision within a week of the meeting.

Applications will be received up to 5.00pm Friday 25 November 2022.
