New floating jetty final touch on boat ramp upgrade.

A new pontoon jetty will be the final touch on Whakatāne District Council’s upgrade of the Whakatāne Boat Ramp area.

The upgrade of the boat ramp area has included the installation of a boat wash, walkways, upgrade of the concrete lift out pad, upgrading of water and electrical services, CCTV and replacing sections of the wharf.

“This new pontoon jetty will be the icing on the cake for the upgrade and will close off several years of hard work to make this a standout facility for the public,” said Council Assets and Operations Ports and Airport Nikorima Broughton.

“The old jetty was a fixed structure; this new floating pontoon jetty will allow for better use at all tide times.

“We are so pleased with how the upgrade of the boat ramp area has turned out and are happy to have had positive feedback from people who use it.”

The new pontoon jetty will be installed next week. This work will take around a week to complete, weather dependent.

The upgrade of the boat ramp was approved in 2018 through Council’s Long Term Plan process.
