Planned water shutdown in Matatā

Date: Monday 18 December (all properties and businesses in Matatā)
Time: 9am to 4pm - Work completed

Date: Tuesday 19 December (some residential properties only including (#1- #37 Pākehā Street and #11- #19 Division Street)
Time: Work completed, shutdown for this date is no longer required.

Properties impacted:  All of Matatā

Whakatāne District Council wishes to inform residents of a planned water shutdown in the Matatā area between the hours shown above. This is to allow connection works to be carried out as part of the water mains and connections renewal project in Matatā.

Once water is back on, mains flushing will be carried out to remove any entrapped air or sediment in the line.

As a precaution, residents are recommended to run an outside tap for at least two-three minutes to dislodge any sediment and remove entrapped air in their lines prior to opening any inside taps.

If the water appears milky continue to flush lines until it runs clear. This is nothing to worry about and the water is still perfectly safe; it simply happens because of pockets of air get trapped in the pipeline.

Important: If people in households depend on water for critical medical support that requires a continuation of water supply – please ensure alternative arrangements are made for the times stated above.

We also recommend filling a couple buckets or a bathtub with water to use and have a potable water container filled with water for drinking.

As always Council thanks residents for their patience and apologises for any inconvenience caused during this essential supply shutdown.

Please contact us if you have any queries or concerns regarding this shutdown.
