Riverslea Mall carpark resealing

An area of the Riverslea Mall carpark which was used as a refuse transfer station during the most intensive period of the town’s flood clean-up work is to be resealed overnight on Thursday, 7 December.

Whakatāne District Council Transportation Manager Martin Taylor says the area now needs to be repaired and resealed, ahead of the busy festive season.

“The availability of this area for refuse transfer purposes was extremely valuable for the community during the flood clean-up, and we now need to reinstate it to its original condition,” he says. “The work will be undertaken between 7 pm and 6 am and will involve the use of machinery and heavy vehicles. As a result, nearby residents may experience some noise nuisance during the work period.

“The Council and the contractor, Fulton Hogan, apologise in advance for any inconvenience experienced and thank residents in the area for their patience. It’s not ideal to be undertaking work at night, but contractors are all very busy leading up to Christmas, and we have to take the opportunity to get this work done when they can fit it in.”
