Royal theme for Seascape street names

Two new road names for the Port Ōhope Seascape subdivision development at Port Ōhope were approved by the Whakatāne District Council’s Policy Committee at its meeting on 13 November.

The developer of the subdivision proposed the names of ‘William Place’ and ‘Harry Court’, which fell within the Council’s road naming criteria, particularly the preference that names reflect a common, established theme. The names of roads neighbouring the subdivision development are Philip Street, Anne Street, Elizabeth Street and Charles Street, which are all named after members of the British Royal Family.

‘Place’ and ‘Court’ have also been selected from the road naming criteria, which notes that their use applies to short, enclosed roadways. The two new roads within the subdivision are both short cul-de-sacs. The Seascape subdivision is now in its final stages of development.
