Water shutdown notice for 20 December 2018

Date: Thursday, 20 December 2018
Time: 10 am – 2 pm
Affected Properties:
Awakeri Road (from 4 – 268 Awakeri Road)
All Melville Road properties connected to the Rangitāiki Plains Water Supply System

A new water main has been laid in the Western Drain Road area corner Awakeri Road by Council’s contractor, Ōpōtiki Drainlayers. To enable the connection works to the existing Awakeri Road water main, the contractor will be isolating the water supply in the area between the hours above.

Please be advised that mains flushing will be carried out following the reinstatement of full pressure to remove any entrapped air or sediments in the line. However, in cases where your private pipes are old and/or rusted (e.g. galvanised iron pipe), as a precaution, we advise that you run your outside tap for at least 2-3 minutes to dislodge any sediments and remove entrapped air in your lines prior to opening any inside taps.

Important: If you or a member of your household depends on water for critical medical support that requires a continuation of water supply – please ensure you make alternative arrangements for the times stated above.

We recommend that before the water shutdown, you fill a couple of buckets or your bathtub with water for your use and have a potable water container filled with water for drinking.
Council thanks consumers for their cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience experienced during this essential supply shutdown.
