Water Shutdown - Pohutu Street and Mcalister Street, Whakatāne

Date: Tuesday, 27 October 2020
Time: 2 PM - 4:30 PM
Affected Properties: 1A Pohutu Street and all properties on Mcalister Street between Peace Street and Bracken Street.

Whakatāne District Council wishes to advise you of a planned water shutdown in your area between the hours shown above. During this time we’ll be carrying out maintenance and repairs to a water leak located at 1A Pohutu Street.

After the water supply is restored, please be advised that mains flushing will be carried out to remove any entrapped air or sediment in the line. In cases where your private pipes are old and/or rusted (e.g. galvanised iron pipe), as a precaution, we advised that you run your outside tap for at least 2-3 minutes to dislodge any sediment and remove entrapped air in your lines prior to opening any inside taps.  If the water appears milky continue to flush lines until this clears, this is caused by pockets of air becoming compressed and entering the water. This is perfectly safe.

Important: If you or a member of your household depends on water for critical medical support that requires a continuation of water supply – please ensure you make alternative arrangements for the times stated above.

Please contact us if you have any queries or concerns regarding this shutdown.
