Date: Wednesday, 19 May 2021
Time: 9 am to 4 pm
Affected Properties:
Tauhe Tarei Street - all properties
SH30 no,s 1993 to 2015
Galatea Road no.18

Whakatāne District Council wishes to advise you of a planned water shutdown in your area between the hours shown above. This is to enable connection works to be carried out as part of the Water mains and connections renewal project in Tauhe Tarei Street.

After the water supply is restored, please be advised that mains flushing will be carried out to remove any entrapped air or sediment in the line. In cases where your private pipes are old and/or rusted (e.g. galvanised iron pipe), as a precaution, we advised that you run your outside tap for at least 2-3 minutes to dislodge any sediment and remove entrapped air in your lines prior to opening any inside taps. If the water appears milky continue to flush lines until this clears, this is caused by pockets of air becoming compressed and entering the water. This is perfectly safe.

Important: If you or a member of your household depends on water for critical medical support that requires a continuation of water supply – please ensure you make alternative arrangements for the times stated above.

We recommend that you fill a couple of buckets or your bathtub with water for your use and have a potable water container filled with water for drinking.

Council thanks consumers for their cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience experienced during this essential supply shutdown.

Please contact us if you have any queries or concerns regarding this shutdown.
