School lunch providers can concentrate on what they do best, feeding tamariki, with Whakatāne District Council taking care of the admin. 

Council’s Environmental Health Team has been working alongside tangata whenua to support them in getting their Food Control Plan verifications so they can participate in the Government’s Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy School Lunches Programme.

Team Leader Environmental Health Nancy Elliott said getting verified to provide lunches in kura can be daunting for food providers new to the verification process.

Whakatāne District Council has purchased a piece of land on Appenzell Drive to ensure public access to the nearby Waiewe Street Reserve is secured.

The 7,500m2 property is a connecting corridor which runs along the Waiewe Stream linking Appenzell Drive through to the Waiewe Street reserve.

Whakatāne District Council today launches its ‘Be a Gamechanger / Auahatia ngā rā e tatū iho nei’ campaign. 

The campaign calls on people from all walks of life to ‘Be a Gamechanger’; by standing for Council and local Community Boards in the upcoming Whakatāne District elections, whilst also encouraging residents and ratepayers to contribute to change by voting.

Work to improve and strengthen Whakatāne District Council’s main office building is progressing well.

Last week (2 July), Council’s Projects and Services Committee met to discuss the next phase of the project, with the contract for the construction awarded to Alaska Ltd.
