Waste management at an event

Waste event stations are available for free use at events. Events can create a lot of waste. If you are organising an event, you need to ensure that all the waste is properly managed and disposed of appropriately. Council bins are designed for day-to-day use and aren’t sufficient to handle the extra waste from an event.

Under our Waste Minimisation and Management Bylaw, an Event Waste Management & Minimisation Plan must be submitted for any event where 1,000 people or more are expected to attend. However, it is a good idea to create a plan for an event of any size.

Use our template below to create your Event Waste Management & Minimisation Plan. Remember to think about how you will separate waste types and reuse or recycle as much as possible.

We can provide support and advice for managing waste at your event. We have waste event stations available for free use (conditions apply), and you can discuss your plan with our Solid Waste Manager or Whakatāne Waste Zero.
