Locky Docks

Bike security can be a concern and a barrier for using a bike, as can the cost of charging an e-bike. Thanks to a generous grant of $80k from Trust Horizon, free to use ‘Locky Docks' will be installed across the District.

Locky Docks are secure bike racks with free charging stations for e-bikes. The docks operate with a BYO charger model which is safely stashed in a sealed compartment. They are designed to be easy to use, operate from an app on the user’s phone, Bee Card or RFID card and do not require the user to provide their own lock. Attached to the docks is electronic screen which will provide details on safe cycle routes in the area and other advertising.

Installation of the Locky Docks has started and are located at the following locations:

  • Robert Harris, The Strand Whakatāne
  • Caroline Eve, The Strand Whakatāne
  • Mahy Reserve, Ōhope Beach
  • Whakatāne Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Short Street Whakatāne
  • Viet Eatery, Kopeopeo

Additional sites will be added as the network of cycling trails across the District expands.
