Salonika and Crete Streets Safer Travel Route

This greenway will make it safer and easier for kids to get to school and to provide safer, easier access for everyone across Goulstone Road and on to Rex Morpeth Park, the aquatic centre and other destinations.

We've started work on a Safer Travel Route in the Goulstone, Crete and Salonika Streets neighbourhood.

Construction of this Safer Travel Route will take around five months to complete, weather dependent, and will take place in three stages.

Stage one: February 9 - March 10

Pedestrian refuge island and courtesy crossing on the Crete and Salonika Streets intersection.

Raised speed table with crossing at the King and Salonika Streets intersection.

Stage two: March 13 - April 5

Raised speed crossing with crossing at the back of St Joesph's School (outside 51 Salonika Street).

Raised speed crossing at the Salonika and Douglas Street intersection.

Stage three: April 6 - June 1

Raised speed table across the entire Goulstone Road and Crete Street corner including two courtesy crossings.

During construction there will be sporadic road closures and detours in place, but we will always maintain access to resident's properties. Residents are advised to put out thier rubbish and recycling as usual and contractors will ensure it is picked up.

This Safer Travel Route will make it safer for tamariki to travel to school, for the elderly to use their mobility scooters and for people to walk or cycle to the pools, playgrounds, rugby fields or into Whakatāne town.
